General Election 2024: What does it mean for FE?

With the upcoming General Election just a matter of days away, much uncertainty and confusion persists surrounding the potential impact of a new government on the Further Education sector. At Talking FE we are committed to providing a clear and informative voice on the topics that matter most to FE.

As a result, we are proud to announce that our new live webinar ‘General Election 2024: What does it mean for FE?’ will be taking place on Monday July 1st.

During the webinar our expert speakers will cover some of the key election issues, pledges, and possible outcomes relevant to Further Education, and answer any queries or concerns regarding how the election may affect you and your college. This Webinar will be the first in our Talking FE series, a new programme of webinar events that will run monthly throughout the year and cover various topics ranging from AI to Enrichment.

The focus of our initial webinar on Monday July 1st will be to unpack some of the promises and pledges made in the Manifestos of the major parties, and discuss the potential impacts of these pledges on Further Education.

Keeping track of the various promises made by the many different UK parties can seem like a daunting task, so the aim of this webinar is to cut through the noise and discuss the most relevant issues being discussed during the election campaign.

In addition to sketching out a possible post-election roadmap, our speakers will offer valuable and topical insights into the election discussion that will leave you with a wider and more dynamic understanding of the relationship between policy and education.

Our first guest speaker at this event will be Tom Bewick, Education Consultant, Visiting Professor at Staffordshire University and Federation of Awarding Bodies Chief Executive from 2018-23. Tom not only has vast experience in the field of education, but his role as a Labour Councillor in Brighton and Hove between 2015 and 2017 provides him a wealth of political knowledge that positions him as a key voice at the intersection of education and politics.

Secondly, Careers Expert Antony Adams will be sharing his deep understanding of the job market, offering insights into how the general election may affect the career prospects for young people in the coming months and years.
