Notre Dame College received once again, a triumphant ‘Outstanding’ in all four inspection areas. Inspectors were particularly impressed by the college’s “rich and varied extra-curricular opportunities” which developed students “confidence and resilience”. The college was also commended on the various opportunities available to staff: “Leaders and managers have designed and implemented a focused and comprehensive programme of professional development, internal buddying, and sharing of expertise”.
Similar results were reported in Barnsley College’s latest Ofsted. Inspectors praised the activities the college offered and how they effectively prepared their students for the world of work. For example, students are to attend ‘industry weeks’ where they can speak to and learn from a range of industry experts. An honorable mention was also made about the partnerships college staff have created with employers. With these partnerships, students were given numerous opportunities to “develop the skills needed to gain aspirational jobs with local employers”.
Staff were also congratulated on the “very effective use of topical events to develop students’ awareness of issues”. The college delivered a range of citizenship activities such as Remembrance Day, International Women’s Day, and other activities which shine light to topical current affairs. Inspectors concluded that Barnsley College students were “more active citizens and often got involved in helping their local communities” as a result.
Finally, ‘Outstanding’ status across all four areas was also awarded to Greenhead College. Inspectors praise staff on the many opportunities available to students to help prepare them for life after college. This is done via the college’s “comprehensive careers programme” involving tutorials that support students to explore career routes and university life. Importantly, all students who are not sure what to do after college receive “effective support” from staff.
Through “close and effective” relationships staff have built with schools, the local university, members of parliament, and the council, students at Greenhead College are also provided with plenty opportunities to “understand university life and to experience the world of work”.
